CLEANING METHODS

Audrey Laine Jewelry uses one or all of the following metals: sterling silver, fine silver, brass, bronze, copper.  These metals can and will oxidize over time depending on their contact with water, acids, even the air. Oils and lotions can also speed up oxidation. If your piece is made of metal with no other components, you can clean it yourself! Read on to learn more.

Many Audrey Laine customers enjoy the natural patination of the metal.  If you’re not among them, our go-to clean is to use a polishing cloth intended for sterling silver. Simply rub all surfaces with the cloth until clean. Be sure to use extra caution around silhouettes, openings on shadowboxes, findings, and other delicate parts! If you have stubborn discoloration try toothpaste and an old toothbrush before reaching for a chemical cleaner, the mild abrasive will typically brighten it right up. Another sweet reminder to be gentle around any delicate parts ;)

A deeper clean for brass involves putting some white vinegar in a little dish and letting the piece soak for a bit. If necessary, you can then gently use a toothbrush with a little salt on stubborn oil or lotion build up. Again, using great care around any delicate parts! Rinse your piece well and dry thoroughly before wearing and/or storing.

Remember to avoid getting gemstones, wood, fiber, leather components wet and avoid coming into contact with polishing cloths or liquids like vinegar. Pieces incorporating these elements should take advantage of our professional cleaning services, starting at $20 plus shipping. Please contact us for a cleaning quote specific to your piece!

Liquid cleaners are not recommended as they can build up in the delicate parts and interiors of the hollow forms, and affect patinas or other finishes.
